Translate my passport? Can't I use it to identify myself worldwide anyway?

The question is valid. A passport is a document specifically designed to be internationally valid and recognized. Like a national identity card and a driver's license, it's an official photo ID. Unlike the (German) national identity card, however, it also allows you to travel outside the EU. So why would it need to be translated? In short: there are countries where your native language or the official languages listed in your passport are not widely spoken.
